Lyrics
The Grass across the Fence
Verse
Before I knew the Lord -
I wouldn't listen to his word
I liked doing things my own way
I didn't want to follow rules
I thought they were just for fools
Put on earth to ruin my day
While I was slaving in the sun
My friends were having lots of fun
How I wanted to go with them and play
But My old Man was pretty smart
He said,"let's have a heart to heart
I guess he knew I was going astray
Chorus
He said, "the grass across the fence looks so much greener.
Those People having fun
look so much keener.
And I can tell that this
has changed your demeanor!
But the grass across the fence
Mm mm,mm Isn’t greener.
Verse,
One day, We were missing a cow.
Which had gotten out some how?
Dad and I walked along the fence.
That old cow was such a pain,
Always getting in the grain.
I thought she had no common sense!
Across the fence is where we found,
That cow bloated on the ground.
I knew her death was a big expense!
Yet dad didn't seem angry,
Instead he calmly looked at me
and said,
“what have we learned from these events?”
Chorus
He said, "the grass across the fence looks so much greener.
That Cow thought she was
so much keener!
But you can tell how this
has changed her demeanor.
Because the grass across the fence isn’t greener!”
Verse
I finally understood my Dad,
Like Fences , Gods laws are not bad
They protect us from making mistakes.
What was a hinderment to me,
Was helping me stay free,
By avoiding sin and its heartaches.
For the first time ever I was glad,
That my heavenly dad,
Made fences for our sake
The only question to answer now,
Would I keep acting like that cow?
Or a different course would I take.
Chorus
Because the grass across the fence isn't greener
The People over there aren't really Keener
And looking at that cow helped change my demeanor
Because the grass across the fence isn't greener
